The author of my book is Scott Westerfeld. He has written many other books besides the Uglies. The other books he wrote in this series are Pretties, Specials, and Extras. He has also written books such as The Risen Empire, The Killing Of Worlds, Peeps, The Last Days, and So Yesterday. He has also written a graphic novel series called Shay's Story. Plus he has written the Leviathan trilogy. The Leviathan trilogy consists of Leviathan, Behemoth, Goliath, and The Manual of Aeronautics. He also wrote books such as Afterworlds, Evolution's Darling, Zeros, Bogus To Bubbly, Fine Prey, Polymorph, Love is Hell, and Stupid Perfect World.
In Scott Westerfeld's books he likes the question authority. For example in the Uglies Tally and Shay going to the Smoke is against society. He likes to question the way things are and why they are that way. He also writes a lot about the coming of age. That turning point in teens or kids life. For example when you have to make a choice that could change your life or you have to finally grow up. Two of Scott Westerfeld's quotes that really relate to the book Uglies are, " Everyone in the world is programmed by the place they were born, hemmed in by their beliefs, but you had to at least try to grow your own brain." The other quote is, "What you do, the way you think, makes your beautiful." In the society of the Uglies everyone is programmed to think that everyone being physically pretty is the only way for things to be equal but Shay and Tally grow minds of their own and think about it differently.
